Governance and the County of Stettler No. 6

8 12 2021 - Governance and the County of Stettler No. 6

August 12, 2021

Honourable Nate Horner
MLA for Drumheller-Stettler
Associate Minister of Rural Economic Development

During the July 14, 2021 County of Stettler Regular Council meeting, James Marshall Trucking appeared before Council as a Delegation and made a number of allegations towards County of Stettler Administration and Council on matters which were previously addressed in 2018 and beyond. At the August 11, 2021 Regular Council Meeting, Administration presented Council with report and response to the allegations along with all of the supporting documentation from our files. We are writing today to provide you with our response and supporting documentation.

We take our duties, responsibilities and oaths very seriously at the County of Stettler and are proud to carry them out in accordance with the Municipal Government Act. We are thankful for the assistance and support we receive from Municipal Affairs.  We fulfill our duties in a responsible and transparent manner, while remaining accountable to our citizens and to the public.

We have been carefully and closely monitoring the situation unfolding before, during and following James Marshall Trucking’s Delegation, which includes accusations and allegations being made against staff and Council for the County of Stettler. We will share that both staff and Council and their families have felt threatened, and actions have been taken to further shield and protect these public service members.

While we do not wish to waste any government body’s valuable time which ultimately is taxpayer money, we felt it was prudent to proactively extend our full support and unfettered access for Municipal Affairs to provide review of the County of Stettler No. 6 Council, staff and business operations on this, and any other matters. We fully support an investigation to fully put these allegations to rest, so that we may continue carrying out the essential, good and necessary work and services we provide to the ratepayers of the County of Stettler.
