GIS Technician
The successful candidate will report to the Director of Technology Services. The candidate will be responsible for the continuing development and maintenance of the County’s Geographic Information System.
Current projects include: Asset Management through a GIS, Rural Addressing, large digitization projects, and non-geographic data management. Day to day activities include: customized mapping for internal departments and external requests, administration of the County’s Automatic Vehicle Locating system, updating of Land Use Maps and management and digitization of data layers.
The ideal candidate will have post secondary education in a technical degree or diploma specializing in Geographic Information Systems, Geography, Information Management, or other related disciplines and be proficient with mapping products such as ESRI’s ArcGIS and/or Intergraph’s GeoMedia. One year of practical experience and local government experience would be an asset. An equivalent combination of education, training and practical experience will also be considered.
The candidate should have excellent interpersonal and public relations skills and an ability to communicate effectively, both orally and written. The County of Stettler offers a competitive salary and benefits.

Development Officer
The County of Stettler No. 6 has a position of Development Officer available. This position reports to the Director of Planning and Development and is responsible for all planning and development functions and duties in consultation with the Director. Typical functions and duties include, but are not limited to the following:
- Receive and process development permit applications, subdivision applications and Land Use Bylaw amendment applications.
- Receive and process permits under the Safety Codes Act.
- Prepare the Municipal Planning Commission agenda.
- Make presentations to the Municipal Planning Commission, Council and the Subdivision and Development Appeal Board as required.
- Advise and consult with the public, contractors, developers and government and utility agencies at the front counter, on the phone or in writing.
- Undertake site inspections as required.
- Assist in the preparation of new or revised statutory and non-statutory plans.
- Assist in general administration functions and duties as may be required.
Demonstrated skills that allow a person to fulfill the functions and duties of this position include effective interpersonal communication, including written and verbally, the ability to work independently and as a member of a team, the ability to solve problems and adapt to changing conditions, the ability to pay attention to detail, and the ability to organize, coordinate, and complete workflow, tasks and projects efficiently.
Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent combined with a post-secondary qualification is required, preferably in the field of planning and development, geography, environmental sciences, agriculture, GIS applications or related fields. A combination of other educational qualifications and relevant experience may be considered as an equivalent. Demonstrated proficiency with current word processing and spreadsheet computer software applications is a requirement. Eligibility as a Registered Professional Planner with the Alberta Professional Planners Institute is considered desirable. Previous experience as a Development Officer within a municipal setting will be considered an asset. Knowledge of GIS software applications is considered an additional asset. Successful candidates must have a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record. The County offers a negotiable salary with a full benefit package including a health spending account and paid annual vacation.
