No Tax Rate Increase for County Ratepayers
Taxes are Due Friday, October 30, 2009.
County of Stettler No. 6 Council approved a tax rate that reflects no increase in the Mill Rate for 2009. The residential tax rate will remain at 6.2448 mils while the farmland will remain at 11.8578 mils. Non-Residential has no change in its 15.1280 mils and Machinery and Equipment tax rate saw a slight increase from 11.2 mils in 2008 to 11.7042 mils in the upcoming year. All of these tax rates include the requisitions for School, Ambulance, Recreation, Waste and Housing Authority.
Although the overall tax rate has no increase over last year, residents will find that their tax bill will vary depending on any change that has occurred in their assessment value (this may decrease or increase depending on your individual situation). During our analysis we found that there will be areas that are going to see a reduction and areas in the County that will see an increase in assessment. Tax assessment is always based on the previous year, so land and buildings are being taxed based on their value in 2008.
In addition to the approval of the tax rate, Council approved the 2009 Operating Budget. The County of Stettler No. 6 has an operating budget of just over $27 million. The County of Stettler No. 6 will be generating most of its revenue from taxes ($18.8 million), federal and provincial grant allocations ($5.4million), sales & services fees($2.4 million) and from reserves ($0.5million). This budget includes a expenditures of close to $13 million for transportation services, $2.5 million for water & sewer ($1.7million capital) and $1.5million for Fire protection ($1 million for capital).
